At P.P. Orchids, we manage the whole growing process ourselves; from seed pod to preparing the plants for sale. The steps involved in growing the Paphiopedilum are outlined below.
This the Paphiopedilum pod which contains the seeds of the hybrid. Most Paphiopedilum species are propagated from seeds.
After about a year of ripening on the plant the pod is taken to the lab where it is germinated in vitro. After 1 to 1.5 years the trays of small plants are returned to the nursery.
At the nursery, the plants are placed in nursery trays in the cultivation greenhouse. They remain here for another 1 to 1.5 years.
Once the plants are big enough, they are placed in pots in the finishing greenhouse. It then takes another 2 to 2.5 years for the plant to flower.
After six years of rigorous growth they are ready to be sold and form a striking addition to your home.
